I grew up on the beautiful East coast of Sutherland in the Highlands and had always loved art but initially did not follow that career path. After graduating in Edinburgh, I then worked in Glasgow for a while before moving to London. On my return to Scotland, after 10 years, I decided to take up art again and joined various local clubs and classes within my area. I then completed an Art & Design Portfolio course as well as practical art courses at the University of Strathclyde’s Centre for Lifelong Learning.
Over the years, I have exhibited in numerous exhibitions and charity events in Scotland. I have always drawn inspiration from the beautiful Scottish landscape and use this in my textile work with merino fleece fibres and silks, laying down the fibres in the same way that a painter uses different coloured paints and brushstrokes to create a painting. The completed process creates a ‘felt painting’. I also enjoy using other mediums like watercolour, mixed media and acrylic.
