Sheila Murray, Curator “I’m delighted to once again be curating the show after a two-year break. I’m particularly excited about introducing the work of younger artists this year as well as seeing the latest work of regular exhibitors and that of new artists chosen by open selection. In my early career as an artist, and then as an arts manager, I’ve worked with a wide variety of art and artists from exhibitions by Old Masters to contemporary art installations, but never worked with quite so many artists at the same time as the Macmillan art show! While each year brings new challenges, for me the buzz of the ‘big reveal’ on the first day makes it all worthwhile – and that’s thanks to the generosity of the artists.”
Laura Foreman, Macmillan Coordinator “I am the new Regional Fundraising Manager in Edinburgh for Macmillan and I am truly looking forward to supporting the Art Show Committee this year. I have heard wonderful things about the show, and I feel very privileged to be working beside some of the most passionate and creative volunteers in raising awareness and funds for Macmillan.”
Morag Wright, Project Manager “This is the first year I have been involved in the Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show. My role is that of Project Manager and I am sure this will be a very rewarding and worthwhile experience.”
Natalie Christison, Social Media & Volunteers “I first became involved with the Art Show in 2011 as a volunteer and decided to apply to join the committee in 2012. I love being part of this special event, helping to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. 2017 is my seventh year helping with the show and I am looking forward to the new challenge of managing the amazing team of art show volunteers!”
Laura White, Artist Communications “2017 is my ninth Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show and it has been a pleasure to watch it grow and become more and more successful each year. The excitement of Preview Night makes all the months of planning worthwhile, and it is very fulfilling to be involved in raising money for a charity that does such important work and provides such support to so many people.”
Alice Ogle, Assistant Curator “This is my third year volunteering with the Macmillan Art Show. My role as Assistant Curator gives me the exciting opportunity to assist in choosing work for the show from conception to final product. The committee have been incredibly welcoming and having the chance to work with such passionate and dedicated people gives me great pleasure in supporting this fantastic charity.”
Ruth Davidson “This is my second year helping with the Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show. I am part of the marketing team and thoroughly enjoy volunteering for such a worthwhile charity. It was eye opening last year to see how much work is involved in putting on the show and experiencing the final event.”
Christine Johnston “I am a Macmillan volunteer and enjoy the wide and varied aspects of the role such as wearing the Mac T-shirt to support the runners at the marathon, collecting cans full of money, bucket shakes and of course the annual Art Show. It’s a pleasure to work with the Macmillan Teams and see the wonderful work they do to help and support people with cancer and their families.”
Sujai Kumar “I am the keyboard monkey for the art show, helping with the website, social media, databases, and online processes. I’ve really enjoyed working with the committee who are passionate and kind and brilliant at what they do, and raise lots of money and goodwill for Macmillan”
Karen Wilson “This is my fifth year volunteering with the Macmillan Art Show Committee. Macmillan provides support to so many people and by being part of a committed Art Show team enjoy raising funds for this worthwhile charity. The Communications Team works directly with the artists so it was my pleasure to meet some of them at the Art Show Preview Night last year.”
Pat Young “It has given me great pleasure to have been involved with Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show since its inception. Combining my love of art with the opportunity to raise vital funds for this charity has been very rewarding and I look forward to our event with continued enthusiasm.”
Carrie Pairman “Having been a Macmillan Volunteer for a few years now in a variety of areas, I’m delighted to be back as part of the Marketing Team for the Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show for the second year. It’s an honour to work with such a committed team and see the energy and effort everyone puts in to help raise money and awareness for such a fantastic cause!”
Debbie Cole “I moved up to Edinburgh from London at the end of 2011. I’ve been volunteering at the Art Show since 2014. I consider Macmillan to be a fantastic charity and coupled with a love of art, this Committee is fabulous for me. This will be my first year – of many, I hope! I’m helping in a general way, nothing specific to begin with.
