My artwork evolves from a desire to divert viewers away from their own reality, engaging them in a new reality – a world I create. It is vital to hold onto my sense of childhood playfulness and spontaneity, allowing the creative, physical process to take over. Within my work, a thread between my Irish and Scottish heritage unconsciously emerges, particularly relating to the changing light within often dramatic and majestic landscapes or seascapes. My experiences of exploring many wild places transfers into my paintings and prints, which regularly incorporate a range of materials to capture their vitality and grandeur. Ultimately, I want to evoke an emotional reaction to my work, particularly if that response is related to a personal experience that the viewer has had or makes a connection to the individual fabric of their lives.
