Scott, Ruth

Ruth is a Glasgow based contemporary landscape painter, whose work is atmospheric and emotive with Scottish undertones. Working in heavy body acrylics she paints directly onto canvas mixing her palette there. Accepted for Duncan of Jordanstown School of Art in Dundee, in 1980, she chose to take up a position with a law firm instead. Later when living on the Isle of Bute, (1999 to 2006), influenced by the light and tones of the West Coast, she found a fresh desire to paint. Now part time in the office she is free to dedicate more time to her artwork. Technical training comes from attending various part time courses at Glasgow School of Art, Strathclyde University and various Artist lead workshops. Dramatic skies are her trademark. Currently exploring the effect of scale, silhouettes are introduced against the backdrop of abstract skies, undertaking commissions personalising these from photos.
