Darling, Ian

I am an Amateur Artist who lives in the small Coastal village of Cockenzie in East Lothian. When I moved there in 2012 I was inspired to begin painting again after many years absence. This inspiration came from the peace and tranquillity of living by the sea and intimate Community life. My inspiration also includes such places as the Western Isles, New England and Nova Scotia. All share a common theme of, wide open spaces, big skies, coastal life and isolation. I work predominantly in Acrylics and like to use large blocks of colour to create a mood within the Painting and then add some detail such as a croft or Lighthouse in order to draw the viewer into the work and hopefully instigate a sense of enquiry and reflection about the scene.
