Clasen, Fiona

After studying English at Edinburgh University and working for twenty years as a librarian and researcher, and raising three boys, I have gradually returned to art, which I enjoyed so much at school. First I attended evening classes, then a continuing education course at Glasgow School of Art and finally a full time drawing course at Leith School of Art (2012-13). I work mainly in pastel. I love the purity and vividness of colour that the medium provides, as well as its tactile nature. I am intrigued by the atmosphere created by muted daylight in an interior space, and attempt to express this in my minimalist still lifes. I also respond to the ever-changing light and shade in the Scottish landscape.
