Whittingham, Hayley

I am currently a fine art student at Edinburgh College of Art, specialising in painting, alongside the study of art history. I am also an artists’ model and exhibited in the Scottish Portrait awards 2017.

My paintings and drawings combine observation from life with imagination. Although my work is always representational, I am interested in the way in which my subjects can become abstract compositions when translated onto a two dimensional surface. This is achieved through the manipulation of pattern, colour and form, in which framing choices play a critical role. My inspirations include Hockney, Matisse and the Scottish Colourists.
