Tamura, Ryoko

I am a Japanese illustrator based in Edinburgh. My work has a lot of influences from what I have experienced from growing up in Japan. When I was younger I read a lot of manga and I enjoyed making my own cartoons, which I still enjoy doing today. As well as Manga, I also enjoyed reading stories from around the world, which made me fascinated with cultures outside of Japan. Since then, I have had the opportunity to travel to many different countries, until finally settling in the UK in 2000. I think the influences between my travel, combined with my original Japanese roots shows through in my work. Drawing is a fundamental part of who I am and I often express my thoughts and feelings through my drawings, instead of words. Particularly through my character Koko, who appears in the screen prints. My recent project is illustrating my second children’s book which is due to be published December 2018.
