Cumming, Deborah

My career path has always followed art and design, including my tertiary education which began as a mature student in Chicago and New York (Diploma in Applied Art), Edinburgh (HND Graphic Design), Glasgow (MDes) and latterly Aberdeen (Ph.D). Having taught for a number of years at Napier University in Edinburgh and then Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen I am now focused on my own artwork, which is oil painting. I exhibit my work throughout the UK and have a number of private collectors within the UK, Germany, America and Canada. My inspiration for these works is primarily flora and fabric composed in simple still life settings. In particular, I am interested in a greater focus to everyday objects arranged in uncluttered settings. My hope is that this work conveys the beauty of the ordinary experienced in a single moment of calm.
