Clasen, Fiona

I work mainly in soft pastel as I love the purity of pigment and vividness of colour that the medium provides, as well as its tactile nature.
I focus mainly on still life and landscape, though I have recently begun to enjoy portrait work too. In my landscapes, and sea and cloudscapes, I like to depict favourite places, attempting to capture the spirit of the fleeting light and of the ever-changing mood.
After studying English at Edinburgh University and working for twenty years as librarian and researcher, as well as raising three boys, I have returned to art – first attending evening classes, then a continuing education course at Glasgow School of Art and finally a full-time drawing course at Leith School of Art (2012-13).
I work from my garden studio at home in Bridge of Allan.
