For all my adult life I have been involved in art , mainly through teaching in Scottish secondary schools. Throughout I have always exhibited whether when living in Australia or in Scotland . Inspiration comes from many sources. Buildings, native or garden flowers and land and sea scapes have all been the object of my interest. The creation process of our garden with all its colour contrasts and harmomies, its structures and shapes is not unlike the process I use to tackle the composition of a painting. Drawing and painting my surroundings when on holiday particularly, is an aid to memory. These in the future can become paintings in acrylic on canvas.
I like to use a build up and layers of acrylic colour. Often , involvement in the painting while it is being created results in unexpected effects and colours which I feel enhance the atmosphere.
