Open Call and Younger Artists Initiative!

In line with last year, we are holding an Open Call for applications from artists based in Scotland. Applications will go to a selection panel after the deadline (16th June) and you will be informed if your work is selected.

We are delighted and excited to announce that this year we are making a concerted effort to attract and retain artists in the 18-25 age group through our Open Call – a group currently under-represented. Not only will this keep the show fresh and interesting, it will ensure its future. The intention is to give younger, emerging artists a new exhibition platform and not to exclude or replace older or more established artists. In fact we believe that artists from all generations have much to offer each other.

Venue and Dates

Once again we will be exhibiting in the beautiful Bonhams Auction House at 22 Queen Street, Edinburgh, where they very kindly let us use their galleries free of charge. The dates of this year’s show will be Thursday 24th – Sunday 27th August inclusive, with the private view on Wednesday 23rd August. We will be open during peak Festival season in Edinburgh, and we will feature in the Fringe programme and other key guides to what’s on in Edinburgh during August to share details of our exhibition with art lovers across the city.

Title of the Show

We have listened to the views of our participating artists and this year’s show will be titled ‘Edinburgh Macmillan Art Show 2017’ to keep messaging clear and focus on showcasing a wide range of work by artists based in Scotland to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

All work will be considered, but we do ask that the work:

  • is in any 2D medium (prints, drawings, paintings, mixed media etc.)
  • demonstrates quality, talent and originality
  • is appealing to a wide range of potential buyers – former and new

Donation to Macmillan

Each artist is asked to make a minimum donation of 50% of the sale price if the work sells. Some artists choose to donate up to 100% of the value, which we greatly appreciate, and which all goes to support people living with cancer. All proceeds from the exhibition go to sustain the work of Macmillan Cancer Support, so we would take the opportunity to ask you to please consider whether you can donate more than 50%.

If you have any questions, please get in touch at artists@2018.macmillanartshow.org.uk . We look forward to hearing from you.
